We’re in trouble – make no mistake!

250257e6db164f99a6c188f0beda83e7Make no mistake. We are in trouble.

Media matters, but journalism is dead – and what’s left is an attempt at entertainment. The race for ratings is ludicrous at best. If you’re still paying attention, you’d see we are being overwhelmed with lies and insults from bullies and cowards and what Moore and Gillette, the authors of King, Warrior, Magician and Lover, identify as “high chair tyrants.” Our current leaders are marked by arrogance, hubris, hate, childishness, and pathological narcissism. These are the politicians running for the office of president.

Let’s look at this conundrum through the lens of archetypes.

Candidates like Donald Trump, Ben Carson, and other demagogues in the GOP have archetypal profiles that range from:

  • the shadow trickster
  • the holier-than-thou minister
  • the high chair tyrant
  • the grand stand bully
  • and the coward

If we mistake the controlling, threatening, and hostile behavior of these men as strength, we urgently need to reassess what power, courage, and integrity look like in action.

But enough from me. I am offering these two missives from Caroline Myss who is a history buff as well as a spiritual guide and my mentor.

The outrageously positive response she received for the following social media posts prove that sometimes skillfully channeled, educated outrage has a place in the public forum.

We can face these critical times by being informed and speaking up.

You can also respond to me if you have the inclination to do so. Or better yet, write Congress or a letter to the editor.

WORDS BY CAROLINE MYSS

December 4, 2015

There comes a time when the absurdity of the world around us – at least for me – reaches the point of no return. We have crossed a madness line and I fear in some way there is no going back. Of course, we can never really go back to anything but crossing certain lines really does shift the course of history. Now what I wonder about is, “How did we get here and how will we survive the society we have become?”

I shudder when I think that a society has always turned to its leaders – emphasis on the word “leaders” – to navigate the population through social, political and financial turmoil, not to mention the nightmares of wars. In our case, it is our leaders who have led us into our nightmares. Further, they are incapable of acknowledging that they have absolutely no idea how to cope with the challenges facing our world because not only are they unable to comprehend the scope of them, their focus remains on maintaining their popularity and allegiance to their lobbyists and not to solutions to the massive predicaments facing not only this nation but the global community itself. Never before have we been confronted with such an array of quacking cowards and incompetent idiots who lack the moral backbone to acknowledge not only the actual disasters happening in our world, but why they are happening. Rather, the political platforms they present the public are nothing more than outlandish criticism of fellow candidates, as if expecting a conscious person to find inspiration in that.

A sample of their intelligence:

Climate change? Oh, why that’s just a rumor.

Diplomatic solutions to global crises? Nonsense – that’s what war is for. Right? Just bomb it. You know how Cheney does it: Ready-shoot-aim.

Well, okay then. Can you recall what country you want to bomb? Ah…that’s why I have cabinet-makers…no, that’s cabinet members.

Their fraudulent morality is yet another performance that I urge you to see through, even though the issue abortion. (And how one feels about that issue is not my point here – that is an individual choice and I make no comment about that at all.) My point is their fraudulent use of this issue for political noise.

I have listened to them carry on about their “highly moral” platforms about Planned Parenthood and abortion. One of these candidates even agrees with a fundamentalist preacher who likes to scream from his “Christian” podium that every person involved in giving or receiving an abortion should be “executed”. Executed!!! Wow. Love that Christian language. But I digress. Their high end moral carrying on and on about Planned Parenthood got me wondering, “Where exactly were these moralists before the Planned Parenthood issue was around?” Hum….I can’t recall any one of them representing a social concern for the betterment of any one. But when it comes to repressing the sexuality of someone, homosexuals, for instance – why bingo. Sexuality seems to be a turn-on to these deviants. Why is that? Gotta wonder, don’t you? My goodness…I can’t help but wonder if they have little secrets in their backgrounds. You know, it’s always like that.

Then it occurred to me that Planned Parenthood is the perfect issue for the immoral characters that they really are. It’s absolutely perfect. What could be a more perfect issue for all these politicians than abortion? First of all, it’s a non-corporate one, non-Wall Street, and non-military. Being pro-life, in other words, does not demand any changes of rules, regulations or policies for the criminals running war games or financial crimes. Being pro-life and anti-Planned Parenthood also makes them look like they actually have a conscience, doesn’t it? Further, this issue is one more way to have leverage over women – and ain’t that just too convenient. I would be anything that not one of these loud-mouthed heathens has any moral interest whatsoever in Planned Parenthood other than votes.

What a mess we have in front of us. What a mess. Just when we need a statesman or woman the most, we are forced to listen to a clown car full of frauds and liars. Meanwhile, mass murders are occurring every day in our country, like dollar store sales. We are actually getting used to them! And none of these cowards – and they are political cowards and liars, make no mistake – has the backbone to actually say, “No more guns at all in public. No more.” Who needs a gun to go to K-Mart? Are we insane? Apparently we are.

Well, if anything is ever going to change, it is up to individuals to see through their fraudulent action and challenge them. Demand better. Demand through editorials, through writing their political offices and letting them know you’re on to them. Do not sit back out of disgust – that opens the door to fate and sitting back got us into the hellhole. Changing the destiny of our nation – or any nation – just like changing your own personal destiny, requires conscious choice and action. And not just one positive action but you have to be willing to make a commitment to a lifestyle of positive actions in order to shift the balance between the dark and light forces.

Open your eyes. Humanity is tumbling in the wrong direction. Politicians are not only useless; they are part of the problem itself. It is all the more horrific if they benefit from this madness while the rest of us pay for it.

December 5, 2015

Hi Everyone,

Well, I appreciate your feedback on my post yesterday. And now I will offer some feedback, if that’s okay by you, as they say. First, there is something to be said for matters of spiritual conscience – not consciousness – but conscience. That is, there comes a time when good people need to speak up when confronted with the face of evil. If not you, then who? Speaking up is not being “political”; it is an act of conscience. I am not promoting anything political. I am pointing a finger at the decline of the quality of life in our nation, in our leaders, in our society-at-large. If we do not speak up, we will ultimately forfeit the right to speak up at all. If you call the right to speak up political, it is you who are mistaken. And I would ask you, “Why are you not screaming from the rooftop?”

Secondly, as for being surprised that a “spiritual” teacher would speak out – who better? What is the role of a spiritual teacher if not to alert people that we are traveling into dangerous water. The spiritual journey is not about finding happiness and tranquility and all that blather. It is about seeking truth. What is really unfolding in front of our eyes? What is the “meaning and purpose” behind the madness happening in the world today? Why has our society slipped into such chaos, not to mention hostility? Where once America was an embracing, safe nation, we are now a hostile one with a growing reputation for explosive random acts of violence happening on a daily basis.

In truth, humanity is losing its humanity little by little; bomb-by-bomb, bullet-by-bullet, political policy-by-policy. Our conscience and powers of discernment about the parameters of evil and its handiwork grow ever more dim as the propaganda released from pundits gets louder and louder about the foreign and religious enemies hidden everywhere. Eventually people will no longer be able to tell the real from the unreal. Was someone really a terrorist or not? Who knows? A society easily reaches the “does it really matter” turning point. That’s when its ripe for the worst type of leadership to step in with political promises of the most outrageous kind – reminiscent of a lunatic yelling his promises in a beer hall in the 1930’s in Berlin. We are coming dangerously close to those beer hall speeches and lunacy promises of returning to the days of being a superior nation once again.

The spiritual journey is one of truth: See clearly. We are evolving into a global community and this evolution is fraught with enormous pain and difficulty. And it is likely to get even worse. Why? Because as wondrous as it may sound in discussions around an organic meal, very few people really want to dismantle their personal boundaries much less their nation’s in order to blend into a globally cooperative planet. We did not grow up that way. We are the generations who are in charge of imagining the idea. We are not the people who will see that idea – that global vision – come to pass. Rather, we are the ones who will live the breakdown of the days of old, the world we came from. And it was a world we loved so we will not go easily, no matter how much we idealize wholeness or oneness. This truth is one of the active ingredients underlying the chaos we are living in today.

And so we must face that we are part of the conflict that is unfolding. We are agents in this chaos. It is in us and we are in it. But we also have the choice to be a part of its resolution. We can and we must choose to not give into the negative political propaganda and nonsense that is generated to keep a society in fear – even though so much is frightening. We must utilize the resources of the soul: Prayer is everything its cracked up to be – I promise you. My antidote for the waves of rage that rush over me when I listen to the fools presenting themselves as qualified leaders is to retreat into prayer. I admit to you that I go through psychic nausea first but I have never claimed to be a guru or a fully enlightened being. I walk a humble spiritual path and I have as much disgust about liars and frauds and fools as any one.

No doubt someone will ask me, “What about faith? Don’t you have faith in how things will work out?”

Faith requires action. This is our world as well as God’s. We are in charge of this mess. People who think or believe or hope some off-planet God is going to dive down here and prevent all-hell from breaking loose is seriously mistaken. We are free to nuke ourselves, if that’s where our madness leads us. Free will includes directions to hell. That said, I have endless faith in the unseen benevolence of the Divine. Endless faith. That may strike you as a contradiction – so what. I don’t care. I live an interior place of spiritual mystery, mysticism, and the miraculous. I love this interior address.

So, look alive every one. It’s time to utilize the power of your soul, your consciousness and your conscience. And that is not a political statement. It is a call to your humanity – as well as a call to prayer:

“Hover over me, God, and those I love. Surround me in the grace of clarity and courage. I need to rely on what my soul sees now far more than my eyes. I need to listen to my heart far more than to the distractive influences filtering into my mind. Guide me to goodness in whatever ways my life allows. Help me not to judge others when I have no idea what pain and trauma they are enduring. What I do to the least among us I am doing to every human being. If I am kind to one, I am kind to all. Even kindness takes courage on some days. Hover over me, God. Keep me away from my own darkness and always heading toward the Light. Amen.”

Love,
Caroline
